Stakely joins Alpen as an operator to secure Bitcoin's financial ecosystem

July 29, 2026

Stakely is joining Alpen as one of its first external operators. An operator's responsibility is to secure the deposits and withdrawals that move BTC in and out of Alpen's financial ecosystem using a novel optimistic Bitcoin verifier. Stakely begins this work on Alpen Testnet III.

Alpen is building toward Bitcoin-native financial markets. The operators who verify deposits and withdrawals are foundational to that. By serving in this role, Stakely helps secure financial services built around Bitcoin, a $1T+ asset.

What is Alpen?

Alpen is infrastructure designed to make Bitcoin-native financial markets possible. Bitcoin stays the source of truth and settlement layer. Alpen provides an execution environment where financial applications, including lending, borrowing, trading, and yield, can form around BTC.

In technical terms, Alpen is a Bitcoin rollup enabled by ZK. A central piece of its infrastructure is how BTC moves between Bitcoin and Alpen, and how those movements are verified. Users deposit BTC on Bitcoin and receive an equivalent amount on Alpen, then withdraw back to Bitcoin. External operators verify that each of these flows is correct.

About Alpen Testnet III

Alpen Testnet III brings Alpen's mainnet architecture into a public Bitcoin test environment and, for the first time, opens participation to external operators. It is where independent actors first help secure the system in public, ahead of mainnet.

Alpen's architecture spans several layers: the Bitcoin layer, the bridging layer (Strata), the Alpen layer, and the application layer. Users interact with Alpen through applications, wallets, full nodes, and bundlers, while state commitments and proofs are published to Bitcoin. Bitcoin remains the source of truth.

Why verifying deposits and withdrawals is a critical piece

Moving BTC between two environments with different rules, timing assumptions, and security models is one of the most sensitive parts of any Bitcoin financial system. It has to coordinate activity across Bitcoin, Alpen, operators, finality timing, and challenge mechanisms.

Alpen's novel verifier for Bitcoin is what makes this work. It represents a meaningful advancement in Bitcoin programmability and financial infrastructure, verifying these flows in a way that holds Bitcoin as the ultimate source of truth.

Adding external operators at this stage shows how that verification behaves when independent actors take part in it, not only how it works in a controlled setting.

What does an external operator do?

An external operator is one of the independent participants that collectively verify and process the movement of BTC into and out of Alpen.

Operators verify deposit requests by participating in locking a user's BTC on Bitcoin, and verify withdrawal requests by participating in releasing the corresponding BTC back to the user. In practice, the role includes:

  • monitoring Bitcoin to detect deposit requests;
  • participating in transaction preparation and signing;
  • processing withdrawals from Alpen back to Bitcoin;
  • operating within a system of challenge mechanisms that hold operators accountable.

Independent operators surface what a controlled environment cannot: how the system coordinates, stays available, gets monitored, and responds under more realistic conditions.

For us, this is a natural extension of how we see our work. We are not limited to traditional staking. We participate in the early, operationally demanding stages of networks, where availability, reliability, and correctness directly secure value.

Helping verify deposits and withdrawals for financial services built around a $1T+ asset is exactly the kind of responsibility we want to hold.

Why this milestone matters for Bitcoin infrastructure

Bitcoin is the most established asset in the ecosystem, but its base design favors security, simplicity, and resilience over expressiveness. That has long raised a question: how can financial activity grow around Bitcoin without compromising what makes it Bitcoin?

Alpen's answer is to keep Bitcoin as the reference and settlement layer while building the execution and verification infrastructure that lets credible financial markets form around BTC. Alpen Labs is assembling a broad ecosystem of infrastructure providers, applications, operators, and partners preparing for mainnet.

External operators verifying deposits and withdrawals mark a shift from an internally operated system toward one secured by independent participants.

What comes next

Stakely will continue helping secure deposits and withdrawals across Alpen's financial ecosystem as it moves toward mainnet. Testnet III is the immediate proof of the partnership. The longer arc is helping make Bitcoin-native financial markets possible.
