How to stake STRK? A beginner's guide
L2 decentralization in the Ethereum ecosystem is here! Now you can stake Starknet (STRK) with Stakely, a solution that not only enhances Ethereum's scalability but also reduces transaction costs, increases speed, and executes smart contracts more efficiently, all without compromising network security.
In this article, we'll guide you step-by-step on how to start staking STRK.
Why Stake STRK with Stakely?
Staking STRK not only strengthens the Starknet network but also gives you the opportunity to earn competitive rewards. However, before diving into the process, it’s important to understand how it works.
To validate on Starknet, you simply need 20,000 STRK tokens and the technical knowledge to set up a validator node. However, by delegating with Stakely, you benefit from staking insurance and the assurance that you're delegating to a secure validator.
Additionally, it’s important to know that in the first phase of staking, you’ll only need to run a node. But in the second phase, scheduled for Q2 2025, you’ll need to implement ZK provers, which adds an additional layer of technical complexity and costs associated with operating your own infrastructure.
Steps to stake STRK with Stakely
Although Starknet is an L2 solution, it is not EVM-compatible, so you’ll need a specific wallet from the ecosystem. Currently, the two main options are:
Both wallets support the use of your Ledger, providing an extra layer of security. You can download these wallets directly from their official websites.
Depending on which wallet you choose, follow the steps we'll explain below.
Staking STRK with Argent on Staking Rewards
- Open the Staking Rewards app and connect your Argent wallet. Visit the Staking Rewards app and navigate to the "Stake" section in the sidebar menu. Select Starknet and use the option to connect your wallet with Argent X. If it's your first time on the page, accept the required permissions.
- Select the Stakely validator. Browse the list of available validators. Use the filter options to find one that suits your preferences, such as APR or fees. To delegate STRK with us, select Stakely and continue.
- Delegate your STRK. Enter the amount of STRK you want to delegate. The platform will show a summary of your delegation, including potential rewards and fees. Review everything and click "Delegate".
- Confirm your STRK delegation in your wallet. A confirmation request will appear in your Argent wallet. Accept the transaction, and your STRK will be securely delegated. Done! You’re now helping the network and earning rewards.
Staking STRK on Voyager with Braavos
- Open the Voyager Staking Dashboard and connect your wallet. Visit the Voyager website and locate the Staking Dashboard. In this section, you'll find an overview of the available validators and staking options. Click on "Connect Wallet" and select "Braavos" from the list of compatible wallets. Confirm the connection request in your Braavos wallet to link it to Voyager.
- Select the Stakely validator. Use the search bar or explore the list of validators. Validators are accompanied by useful metrics such as rewards, fees, and performance. Select Stakely by clicking on "Stake".
- Enter delegation details. Specify the amount of STRK you wish to delegate and enter the address where you'll receive the rewards. Make sure the address is correct and click "Delegate".
- Sign the transaction in Braavos. Confirm the transaction via your Braavos wallet. Carefully review the delegation details before signing. Once signed, your tokens will be delegated, and you’ll begin earning rewards.
