stVaults Watcher: open-source monitoring for Lido V3 stVaults

Lido V3 stVaults make it possible to build ETH staking products with different configurations, from public vaults to deployments with more specific architecture. But operating an stVault does not end when contracts are deployed or validators are activated. It also requires continuous visibility into the vault's health, liquidity, withdrawal requests, and the conditions that may require an operational response.

That is why, at Stakely, we have developed stVaults Watcher, an open-source tool for monitoring Lido V3 stVaults and their DeFi Wrapper pools.

The project collects on-chain data, exposes it as Prometheus metrics, and enables Grafana dashboards and Discord alerts to track one or more vaults from a single instance.

What is stVaults Watcher?

stVaults Watcher is a monitoring tool for teams operating or overseeing stVaults built on Lido V3.

It reads public Ethereum data through an RPC endpoint and turns it into metrics that can be integrated into an existing observability stack. The aim is to avoid relying on manual contract, interface, or block explorer checks whenever an operational question arises.

The tool supports Ethereum mainnet and Hoodi testnet, and can monitor multiple vaults with human-readable names from a single instance.

The metrics that matter for an stVault

An stVault combines several pieces of infrastructure. Useful monitoring therefore needs to go beyond checking whether validators are active.

stVaults Watcher exposes metrics for:

  • total vault value;
  • available, staged, and inactive ETH;
  • ETH withdrawable through VaultHub;
  • undisbursed node operator fees;
  • the vault's health factor and health status;
  • utilization and reserve ratios;
  • stETH liability and minting capacity;
  • the status of the PDG guarantee;
  • LazyOracle quarantine activity;
  • pending withdrawal requests and their value;
  • oracle report freshness;
  • the connection status with VaultHub.

Together, these data points provide better context on what is happening in a vault and help identify changes worth investigating before they become an operational issue.

Alerts without relying on manual checks

Alongside metrics, stVaults Watcher can send Discord alerts when it detects conditions configured by the operator.

These include:

  • a health factor below defined thresholds;
  • a vault marked as unhealthy;
  • a withdrawal request awaiting finalization;
  • a high level of inactive ETH;
  • a high utilization ratio;
  • a required forced rebalance.

Alerts include a configurable cooldown per vault and alert type, helping teams avoid repeated notifications for the same condition.

The tool does not replace operational management or the decisions of the responsible team. It helps make relevant signals visible in time and deliver them to the channel where the team already works.

Prometheus, Grafana, and an adaptable setup

The tool exposes metrics in Prometheus format, allowing it to fit into observability environments that already use this technology.

It also includes a ready-to-import Grafana dashboard. Teams can filter data by network and vault, inspect the overall status, and review health, liquidity, withdrawal, and watcher activity metrics.

For teams already using Grafana Loki, stVaults Watcher can also ship container logs to their monitoring environment. The project can be deployed with Docker or run with Node.js, depending on each team's needs.

An open tool for a more observable staking model

stVaults expand what can be built on Lido V3 infrastructure. As these configurations become more sophisticated, observability is no longer a secondary concern.

Publishing stVaults Watcher as an open-source project under the MIT license lets other teams review how it works, deploy it in their own infrastructure, and adapt it to their monitoring processes.

At Stakely, we see operational tooling as an important part of more transparent and robust infrastructure. With this project, we want to provide a practical way to follow the status of stVaults and support their day-to-day operation.
