IBC Eureka: the Cosmos upgrade that connects Ethereum and IBC

April 29, 2025

Blockchain interoperability has long been one of the ecosystem's biggest challenges… until now. Because Cosmos, “the Internet of blockchains,” has launched IBC Eureka, a groundbreaking upgrade to its Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol that natively connects networks like Ethereum —and even Bitcoin in the near future— without relying on traditional bridges.

What is IBC Eureka?

IBC Eureka is the new version of the IBC protocol that not only connects blockchains within the Cosmos ecosystem but also extends its reach to Ethereum, and potentially to any network, thus creating a multichain infrastructure.

With this update, Cosmos strengthens its role as the backbone of interoperability in Web3, enabling smooth, secure, and low-cost communication between blockchains that were previously unable to talk to each other.

What are the benefits of IBC Eureka?

  • Lower costs: no bridge fees and no hidden charges.
  • Faster transactions: optimized infrastructure for better UX.
  • Liquidity unification: merges previously fragmented markets.
  • New DeFi and RWA opportunities: from BTC LSTs to real-world assets.

Key features of IBC Eureka

  1. Direct Cosmos ↔ Ethereum connection: transfer assets like WETH, WBTC, or USDT without relying on external bridges.
  2. Native and secure interoperability: direct chain-to-chain communication without intermediaries or unnecessary risks.
  3. IBC Distribution Zone: access the entire Cosmos ecosystem without deploying additional infrastructure.
  4. Proven scalability: according to network data, IBC moves over $3B per month across 115 blockchains—Eureka is taking Cosmos to the next level.

How does IBC Eureka work?

IBC Eureka is built on three pillars: IBC v2, Skip:Go, and Cosmos Hub. This combination allows assets and messages to travel between Cosmos and Ethereum securely, quickly, and efficiently.

How does IBC Eureka work?
How does IBC Eureka work?
  • IBC v2 solves the limitations of classic IBC: it uses light clients—the most secure standard for cross-chain—and enables tokens like WETH, USDT, or ATOM to move between Cosmos and Ethereum without relying on bridges.
  • Skip:Go simplifies the bridging experience: it integrates smart contracts, APIs, intelligent relayers, and an automated fee system so you can move assets between Ethereum and Cosmos with a single click—no need to worry about gas or hidden fees.
  • Cosmos Hub acts as the interchain connection center: with over 74 connected chains, it reduces costs through batching, removes intermediate relayers, and makes integration easier for new projects, although its use is not mandatory.

Projects already using IBC Eureka

Several projects are already integrating IBC Eureka to move assets across chains, enable new functionalities, and attract users from different ecosystems. Injective, for example, allows assets transferred via IBC Eureka to be used on its vaults platform; Tower DEX offers trading and liquidity provision with tokens bridged from Ethereum; and Babylon connects Bitcoin with Ethereum and Cosmos, enabling liquid staking for BTC—just to name a few examples.

Note: although not officially integrated yet, the Bitcoin connection is already underway thanks to projects like Babylon.

IBC Eureka is not just a technical upgrade—it’s a paradigm shift. It marks a decisive step toward a truly interoperable internet of blockchains, where assets can move freely between networks without relying on insecure bridges or centralized solutions. Because the vision is clear: connect every chain on the planet with IBC Eureka.
